Léo Pereira Back on the Field After Thigh Injury
Defender Léo Pereira has returned to training on the field following a thigh injury and is likely to be available for the upcoming Brazilian Championship match. Flamengo has confirmed absences for the encounter.
Let’s delve into Flamengo’s situation, which has resumed its activities after thrashing Vasco 6-1. The team reconvened this Thursday at Ninho do Urubu to start preparing for their next Brasileirão match against Grêmio.
According to ‘Globo Esporte,’ coach Tite received some good news amid several team absences. Defender Léo Pereira, in the final stages of recovery from a left thigh injury, participated in field training and is expected to be an option for Thursday’s game at 8 PM (Brasília time) at Maracanã. The defender, who has not played for nearly a month since the 4-0 victory over Bolívar on May 15, is likely to be on the substitute’s bench. David Luiz might continue in the starting lineup, following strong performances against Millonarios and Vasco. Meanwhile, Ayrton Lucas and Allan are under the care of the medical department.
It is important to note the absences of Arrascaeta, De La Cruz, Varela, and Vinã, who are with the Uruguay national team, and Pulgar, who has joined Chile. Lorran, the likely replacement for the number 14 during the Copa América, has been called up and is currently training with the Under-20 national team at Granja Comary. However, the young player will return to Flamengo this weekend.
Additionally, Gabigol has not yet reported back to the team. The striker traveled to Switzerland to attend a hearing at the CAS, scheduled for Friday, aiming to prove his innocence in relation to a 2023 doping test fraud allegation. However, the court postponed the hearing on Thursday. Therefore, the number 99 will return to Rio de Janeiro on Friday.
